Weekend Inspiration #3

School holidays have started here and we all have a week off. Planning to relax and recharge the batteries.

Current obsession- Cuffs

Not sure how long this trend has been around but I keep seeing arm cuffs lately and they look very chic. I'm not talking about elaborate ones that look like they'll get caught on everything, there seems to be a move towards sleek designs that look elegant and timeless. Found a few images of ones that I love.

This one has serious wow factor!

A cuff is a powerful accessory...for every Wonder Woman ;)

Wreck this journal

I don't know about you but I've been seeing a lot of images on the internet about wreck the journal. Some of the images have been stunning!

It's basically a journal that you fill with your emotions and fun images. People are encouraged to find new ways to make art within the covers, so spilling coffee on the pages, poking hole through it or tearing the pages is encouraged. The freedom and mistaking making concept is quite fun.

I love having a journal but often forget to write in it regularly. Instead I'm a doodler so this is perfect for me.

Theses are a few of my favourites.

This is a great idea! definitely doing some travel ones that will make me smile when I look back.

Brigitte Bardot

If there is one type of style that most women want to mimic, it's the French style. One French woman who has been a style icon for decades (and is still copied by new generations coming through) is Brigitte Bardot. She's an actress, singer and fashion model who is now an animal rights activist. Herald as a sex symbol of the 50s and 60s, she was chosen as the face of Marianne (female face of liberty in France) in 1969. I can't say that I've ever seen her films or heard her music but her style, that I know.
She has a very comfortable, girly look that screams femininity. A look that celebrates being female.

Full skirts and tiny nipped in waists. The gingham print of the skirt makes this look fresh and summery.

I love stripes so this outfit is great for a summer holiday. And the stripes are going in the right direction with a dropped waist. Very flattering.

Quite like the matchy-matchy vibe of the handbag, boots and luggage with the skirt and cardigan. This is a clean and classic look that would definitely work today. I also quite like that her boots are over the knee so a little sexy but flat so it's not trashy.

Again, crisp in black suit and white top with statement sunglasses. An otherwise boring outfit looks alive with those quirky over-sized glasses.

LOVE animal print! Always in fashion.

Brigitte really knew how to play to her assets, this time in another super feminine dress that has a full skirt and highlights her tiny waist.

Headbands, adore them, mainly cause they give me an extra day before I need to wash my hair. I like that she has matched her headband to her top and the color brings out the blonde hair that is very voluptuous at the back.

A bright colored full skirt and a simple white tee, such a clean and pretty look. Definitely a staple in my summer wardrobe.

Classic Brigitte Bardot look, Lots of long blonde hair, full beige colored lips and a smoky exaggerated eye.

Obsessions #1

We all have our favorite things in life and I've decided to do a few posts on some of mine.
I've always been a huge film fan, I'll pretty much watch anything except Rom-Coms...just no, I can't.

My favorites are Scifi, thrillers, crime dramas and those cheesy true life/ inspiring movies, which I think most people secretly love.

I used to go to the cinema once a week or every two weeks if there wasn't much on. Now series seem to be my 'drug' of choice. I actually prefer them to films. I think its because we can watch a character or relationship develop over a period of weeks (or weekend in my case) that in a film would move along quicker. There's also a shared experience over debating if Jon Snow will come back in the next season or is he really dead? Seriously, he just has to come back...pretty please? And of course you can watch it in the comfort of your own home dressed in your warmest pjs, feet up with a glass of wine. Bliss.

These are a few of my current favorite shows:

The Strain

Labelled as a vampire horror drama, this series had me hooked from the first 10 minutes. I ploughed through 11 of the 13 episodes in two days and now I'm trying to resist watching the last two tonight. I'll be a little bleak when its over. This is the premise that I got from Wikipedia:

A plane lands at JFK International Airport with the lights off and the doors sealed. CDC epidemiologist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team are sent to investigate. On board they find 206 and 4 survivors. The situation deteriorates when all the bodies disappear from the morgue. Goodweather and his team find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones but the entire city from an ancient threat to humanity

Criminal Minds

Now in its 10th season, this series never gets old. I think this is mainly cause of Dr Spencer Reid, everyone's favorite nerd. The FBI profilers travel around the USA mostly tracking down some of the worst offenders and killers through behavioral analysis. Sometimes after a show, I'll spend hours on google trying to see if there's a link between one of the show's killers and a real-life murder. And often there is...

Waking the Dead

This series is unfortunately no longer being produced but I often will revisit the stories and I always enjoy them. Its a British police crime drama that revolves around a team that consists of CID police officers, a psychological profiler and a forensic scientist. Together they investigate cold cases that were never solved. I love the fact that real issues are looked at (homophobia, racism, sex crimes, abuse within the Catholic Church to name a few) and the characters are gritty, don't always agree and seem very human. It's not as polished as the American crime dramas, which is an other bonus for me.

Firefly

I think this is my favorite Scifi and the movie Serenity, which was made after this awesome series was CANCELLED unfairly after one season, is high on my favorite films. This series is billed as a Science fiction space western drama! Something for everyone. Set on a spaceship called Serenity, the series follows a group of people who were on the losing side of a civil war. They now make their living on the fringe of society as they move around their star system. I can't really do this series justice and as I mentioned there is only one season but there is a massive cult following. Give it a bash, worth it.

Castle

An American crime drama that follows the lives of Richard Castle, a best selling mystery writer and his muse Detective Kate Beckett as they solve crimes together in NYC. It's quite funny, I love the dialogue between Castle and Beckett and the interaction with the other characters in their lives. They mostly solve murders together and quite often they are unusual ones. Also Nathan Fillion also stars in Firefly so you know its got to be awesome.

House of Cards

This series is actually a remake of a British series based on a book of the same name. Although I'm usually in favor of British series over the American remakes (they seem more real with better but less pretty actors) I love this one. I've only seen bits and pieces of the BBC version but Kevin Spacey's portrayal of the creepy murderous Frank Underwood is addictive. I also am fixed on the screen when Robin Wright's character, Claire, is on. In my mind, she is more sinister than Frank and I'm often expecting to see her snap but the Ice Queen never does.

Teen Wolf

I know that adding this onto the list but it's cheesy, funny and a little dark. Its super fun and the clothes are cute. Enough said.
